Discussions about introducing Wheelchair Ultimate under the WFDF umbrella first emerged during the 2011 Annual Congress. The following years led to efforts to become a Recognized International Federation by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in 2014.
Following this recognition, WFDF began collecting contacts from existing Wheelchair Ultimate groups and collaborating with them to gain practical expertise. The WFDF Para Sports Commission was established, chaired by Volker Bernardi.
At the 2018 Annual Congress, it unanimously voted to intensify work on Para Sports, securing the necessary budget for this sustained development.
In 2021, the Para Sport Commission published “Flying Disc Parasport Wheelchair Ultimate eBook,” which established the initial set of competition rules for Wheelchair Ultimate, edited by José Amoroso from Portugal.
